ULEAD Scholars

The ULEAD Scholars program is an eight month leadership program for high school students in the DC Region. During the month sessions students learn about leadership topics, plan a community project, and execute the project. Each Scholar will have access to various benefits to help them on their leadership journey in school and career.

Program Outline:

Scholars participate in eight monthly sessions. During each session scholars meet with their mentors over lunch; discuss a leadership/business topic with a community leader; and work together to create their community impact project.

Program Eligibility:

  • Current High School Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior in the Washington, DC Region

  • 2.75 Cumulative GPA

The Application

The application for ULEAD Scholars is divided into five parts and this outline will be useful as you prepare your application.

  1. Student Information - General contact information for the student.

  2. Parent/Guardian Information - General contact information for the parent(s)/guardian(s).

  3. School Information - General information about the student’s school and cumulative GPA.

  4. Leadership Statements - The two leadership statements will help the review committee learn more about student’s thoughts on leadership and civic engagement. Written responses must not exceed 500 words and video responses must not exceed 2 mins and should be landscape. Here are the two questions:

    • Define leadership in your own words and tell us how you live up to this definition in your life. (Written response only)

    • What is the most important issue in your community and how would you address the issue? (Written or video response accepted)
